2021 Faculty Staff Retreat

“Finding Peace”

An Ignatian digital retreat for LMU faculty and staff

Friday, February 5 – Sunday, February 7, 2021

How can I find peace in my daily life, when so much is uncertain and unfamiliar? What insights and resources can Ignatian spirituality offer in this search for peace?

The Center for Ignatian Spirituality invites you to experience its annual faculty and staff retreat in a new way this year. “Finding Peace” is a digital Ignatian retreat with live resources, pre-recorded sessions, small group connection, and real-time accompaniment offered to you wherever you find yourself, far or near. Facilitated by Fr. Randy Roche, SJ, Fr. Wayne Negrete, SJ, and Kat Brown, this retreat is an opportunity to reflect on Ignatian themes as they relate to our present moment. We hope you will join us for this opportunity to pause, reflect, and search for peace alongside your colleagues.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • You can expect to be provided with physical and digital materials, including texts, presentations, meditations, and prayers to accompany LMU faculty and staff in their spiritual journeys. The retreat will open at 7:30 pm on Friday and close at 12:00 pm on Sunday, but the majority of that time will be self-paced and self-guided for the four themed parts: one on Friday evening, two on Saturday, and one on Sunday. The retreat facilitators will be available throughout the retreat, except when participating in small breakout sessions. Registrants will also receive a package of physical materials for the retreat ahead of time.

  • No! Most materials, including presentations, will be available digitally at specific time periods, to be accessed when it is most helpful for the retreatant. Retreatants will join in small group discussions of about 20 minutes with a consistent group twice on Saturday and once on Sunday, with a concluding brief gathering for all before the conclusion of the retreat. In addition to the presentations, ideas and resources for self-guided reflection activities will be provided.

  • No, there is no cost to participants. Meal vouchers and physical materials will be provided for you. However, space is limited and resources are committed in advance, so we kindly ask that you only register if you are able to participate fully (Friday evening – Sunday midday, including 3-4 brief live sessions during that period). If your availability changes, please notify us at ignacio@lmu.edu as soon as possible so we can make your spot available to someone else.

  • While this retreat is rooted in Ignatian spirituality, which involves prayers and meditations in the Christian tradition, the retreat is open to all. Individuals of many faith commitments (and no faith commitments) have participated in past retreats and have found the Ignatian way of reflecting and discerning to be spiritually fruitful. If you have any questions about this, please contact Fr. Randy Roche, SJ at rroche@lmu.edu and we would be happy to speak to you in more detail.

  • You are still invited and encouraged to participate! We have designed this digital retreat to minimize synchronous meetings and the need to be “on screen,” so you can tailor your reflection periods to your own unique schedule and needs. We will provide ideas and resources for ways to find or create reflective spaces in your own environments, as well. As is our custom, partners or spouses are also invited to participate at no additional cost.
