Against the tendency in recent eco-criticism to deny any qualitative difference between the human being and other animals, McGrath argues that the take home meaning of the Anthropocene is that this difference is basic and of immense ecological significance.

Sean J. McGrath teaches philosophy and theology at Memorial University in Newfoundland. He is the author of several books, including The Dark Ground of Spirit: Schelling and the Unconscious (Routledge), and Thinking Nature: An Essay in Negative Ecology (forthcoming from Edinburgh University Press).
