Faith Lived: Inculturation in Ghana
Faith Lived, a student documentary project, is an exploration of comparative religion, examining the intersection of indigenous Akan spirituality in Ghana and Catholicism. Embedded in the film is a parallel journey that traces the filmmaker’s familial adoption of Catholicism (which took place nearly a century ago) and the history of Catholicism’s development in Ghana. With expert analysis by Dr. George Hagan, the filmmaker’s grandfather, and Archbishop Peter Sarpong, a hugely influential figure who Africanized the Catholic mass in Ghana, the film invites a conversation. How did an indigenous African spirituality exist before the arrival of Catholicism? How did Ghanaians respond to Catholicism?
