Fr. Dorian Llywelyn, S.J.

Fr. Dorian Llywelyn SJ, is a Welsh Jesuit—the first since 1679. His life and work have taken him to nine countries across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. He holds degrees in English and theology from universities in the United Kingdom, Spain, and the United States.

He is Director of Loyola Marymount University’s Center for Ignatian Spirituality, where he works to deepen the University’s engagement with the spiritual and intellectual vision of the Society of Jesus. He taught for fourteen years in LMU’s Department of Theological Studies and was Director of the Huffington Ecumenical Institute and the Catholic Studies program. He has also held senior leadership positions at Santa Clara University and at the Institute for Advanced Catholic Studies at the University of Southern California.

Fr. Llywelyn’s scholarship explores the relationship between Catholic faith, culture, and public life, with particular interests in national and religious identity, Mariology, and popular devotion. He is the author of two scholarly books and numerous articles for both academic and general audiences. He is co-editing, with an international group of scholars, a multidisciplinary volume on Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, now in its final stages of preparation.

Alongside his university work, Fr. Llywelyn is involved in pastoral ministry with people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Mayfield Senior School in Pasadena and as a chaplain of the Western Association of the Order of Malta.
