Companions in Mission FAQ

Companions in Mission - FAQs

Who can participate?

Any full-time faculty or staff members at any Loyola Marymount University campus are welcome to participate. There are no prerequisites for previous experience or length of service, and we welcome long-serving community members as well as those brand new to LMU.

Do I need to be Catholic/Christian?

No! All are welcome in Companions in Mission and there is no assumption or expectation that participants will hold any particular faith or cultural identity. We hope you will share your perspectives, questions, and stories with fellow cohort members, whatever they may be; through this process, the entire group learns and deepens its understanding.

What is the time commitment?

Participation in the program involves an average of 1.5-2 hours a month, usually during the week over lunchtime. All meetings are in person and refreshments/meals are always provided. Dates will be provided at the beginning of the fall, and participants may be absent from up to two meetings over the course of the year to receive their certificate of completion.

What are meetings like?

The typical Companions in Mission meeting involves a presentation on a topic related to Jesuit, Marymount education and mission, as well as time for individual reflection and group discussions. Guest speakers from across LMU and off-campus are frequently featured.

I (or my supervisor) have more questions before making a decision about participating. Is there someone to contact?

Sure! Please contact Kat Brown, Director of Mission and Identity Programs, and we'll be happy to share more information.
