Pastoral Accompaniment

The chaplain is available for individual and team accompaniment as well as to officiate at university events and celebrations.

 One on One

  • Spiritual Accompaniment focuses on the spiritual life of the individual and the movement or presence of God in their day-to-day lives. The chaplain serves as a caring presence for those seeking greater alignment with their faith and their decision making. People bring their whole selves to work and as such, they desire to connect who they are with their aspirations and value systems. This way of caring for persons and their spiritual needs is confidential and available and open to those of all faith perspectives.
  • The Spiritual Exercises are, essentially, "spirituality for busy persons" who are actively involved in the world. They are a means of making decisions in a state of true interior freedom. They include ways of meditating and contemplating, the use of thought, memory, and imagination, with frequent reference to Scripture passages. The chaplain is available to accompany individuals seeking to make these exercises.
  • Pastoral Counseling centers on supporting faculty and staff who experience times of difficulty or conflict. Through deep listening, the chaplain offers counsel and a safe space for individuals as they move towards a resolution of their challenging life situations.
  • The chaplain is also available to support individuals who want anointing of the sick, anniversary blessings, and for those who specifically request the presence of a priest.

Teams and Groups

  • Teams and Groups are from time to time interested in having a staff retreat as a means for attending to their manner of working together, processing changes or transitions, and gathering a sense of how they would hope to move forward towards a common vision. The chaplain is available to join such meetings to encourage listening, use discernment tools, nurture community building and encourage cohesion on values, in order to nurture a healthy workplace spirituality.
  • While Campus Ministry is responsible for University Liturgies, the chaplain is frequently called upon for blessings and invocations for specific events, on-site prayer services and pastoral care for teams, as well as presiding at funerals, memorial services, and other celebrations.
