About

Mission

The university chaplain is a pastoral caring presence for the well-being of faculty, staff, and administrators as individuals and as teams. Through companioning and listening the chaplain supports the integration of the whole person: their aspirations, discernment of their vocational calling, spiritual life, and connections to the larger community. In this way, the chaplain promotes and encourages a vibrant, life-giving, and healthy workplace spirituality inclusive of all spiritual traditions and perspectives.

Meet the Chaplain

I have found much goodness in people who share with me, in confidence, their desires for some peace or wholeness in their lives, whether they come with hurt or anger, embarrassment or questions, dreams or aspirations. Many discover, as they talk about their present concerns, that their experiences count for more than their ideas and that “religion” is not the issue, but that their desires for something more and greater, even beyond their understanding, draws them forward.

It is a joy for me to walk with people who are seeking more clarity about their purpose or even their next step into an unknown future. I see courage and strength right in the midst of our human fragility and am glad to be in a position here at LMU where I can be of service in this way, among others.

Randy Roche, S.J., has an M.A. in Theology from Santa Clara University, and an M.S. in Counseling from San Diego State.
