Stained Glass Windows Tours

Save the Date-Stained Glass Windows Tours

LMU faculty and staff are invited to join university Chaplain Randy Roche, S.J., for either of the tours of the beautiful stained-glass windows in Sacred Heart Chapel on Wednesday, April 9, from 1-2 p.m. or Thursday, April 10, from 12:00-1 p.m.

To register for either tour, click here.

Fr. Randy has been leading these enjoyable and popular tours at various times over many years. The tours are in a conversational mode as well as instructive, so that participants walk and ask questions as they move through the chapel from the main entrance to the far end which is usually not available to those who come to other events.

The mid-day light enables the brilliant colors of the 12-Century-style 20-foot-tall windows to fill the chapel since all other sources of illumination will be eliminated. Within this peace-inducing visual environment, participants will learn about the principal characters and associated symbols in the windows. Besides the individual persons represented in them there are also iconic “coats of arms” of the Jesuit universities or colleges in the U.S., and a series of side windows dedicated to the 4 colleges of the university at the time the chapel was built, in 1953.

“Maps” of the windows will be provided, identifying the principal characters in each window and the coats of arms of the 27 Jesuit colleges in the U.S. that are a part of each installation.
