Rev. Rashmi M. Fernando, S.J.
Hailing from Sri Lanka, I have an interdisciplinary academic background in psychology and sociology (B.A. Psy.-Soci) and philosophy (M.Phil.) in India, and Sacred Theology (S.T.B.) in France. I recently obtained my Doctorate in Interdisciplinary Leadership in Education (Ed.D.) at Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska, with the Outstanding Graduate Student of the Year 2026 Award. My doctoral research explored the lived global citizenship experiences of students participating in study abroad programs at Jesuit Catholic universities in the USA Midwest Province. A key contribution of my research is the Reflective Global Citizenship Integration Model (RGCIM), designed to support the intentional formation of compassionate, justice-oriented, and globally responsive citizens and leaders.
At Loyola Marymount University (LMU), I serve as a Jesuit Fellow in the Office of the Provost, adjunct faculty in the College of Business, and Coordinator of the Arrupe Living and Learning Community. I also pioneered and currently pilot the LMU Global Citizen Certificate Program through the Office of Study Abroad, fostering structured reflection that connects global experiences with intercultural learning, ethical discernment, and vocational reflection. Beyond LMU, I serve as an online faculty member with Jesuit Worldwide Learning (JWL)—Higher Education at the Margins—and contribute to the emerging Ignatian Global Citizenship Project through Educate Magis. I also serve as an online reflection writer for Creighton Online Ministries and as an Op-Ed contributor to The Colombo Telegraph and The Island, two mainstream newspapers in Sri Lanka. In addition, I currently serve as the Pastoral Coordinator of the Sri Lankan Catholic Community in California.
