Welcome

Welcome to the website dedicated to the stained glass windows of Sacred Heart Chapel, located on the campus of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California.

The 29 stained glass clearstory windows and the rose window of the Sacred Heart inside the chapel are uniquely historical, and also iconic in their manner of depicting Jesuit Saints and the seals of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in the United States.

Each of the windows on this website is accompanied with a story that relates to the central figure and to the accompanying seal. A separate section offers additional historical information about the saints.

The images of the windows were taken with indirect sunlight. For those who can view them directly, the treasure of stained glass windows in Sacred Heart Chapel is best appreciated during daylight hours, especially at mid-day.

The windows were designed by Richard Jung and fashioned at Cummings Studio, San Francisco. The first of the windows was installed in 1954, the year the chapel was dedicated.
